It may not seem like a gadget to most, but a good flat iron is something every curly haired gal needs in her tech arsenal. They are pretty awesome these days–adjustable temperature, ceramic plates, and other cool features that help you get your hair as straight as possible.

Flip Ultra HD vs. Kodak Zx1 – which will capture my heart?

I have been lusting after the Flip camcorder ever since it came out, and really, who could blame me? I love all things techy and small, and the Flip packs a lot of features into a small package. However, my Canon SD750 was proven to take video that is just as good, if not a little BETTER, than the original Flip. So, I held off on getting one because I didn’t think it was a good deal if I already had a device that could do the same thing.

When the Flip Mino HD came out, my intrigue was sparked anew. I still really love the form factor, and the ability to shoot in decently high quality for a fraction of the price of expensive HD cameras is a definite bonus. I realize you won’t get the same results as with one of those expensive HD cameras, but for what I want one for I feel that it will be more than sufficient. I have been contemplating adding one to my Christmas list this year for a few months.

Then, I hear about the introduction of the Flip Ultra HD, which has longer recording time, user removable rechargeable batteries, and an HDMI port. Now Gizmodo tells me that there is a Kodak equivalent to the Ultra HD coming out on May 15 that has pretty much all of the above, plus support for SDHC cards up to 32GB! I swoon! It seems to be a better price point as well at $150 versus the $200 for the Mino HD and the reported $200 for the Ultra HD. I would expect this means the Mino should drop to $150 as well, but for that price the Kodak Zx1 is the clear winner to me–provided the performance is good.

Hopefully someone will do a side-by-side comparison of the two cameras…if the Flip and Kodak people want to grace me with their products, I would be HAPPY to conduct the experiment myself and blog the results. Call me, guys!

It’s Dell Mini 9 Eve!

I got the shipment notification on my Dell Mini 9 today, and imagine my surprise when the tracking information showed that it shipped Wednesday night (instead of Friday, as the automated order status line had told me) for arrival TOMORROW! Picture me almost falling out of my office chair from sheer glee and you have my reaction.

So it’s Dell Mini Eve and it feels like tomorrow is Christmas Day. Instead of hanging my stocking with care, I pored I over the user forums at My Dell Mini and created a boot disk to install OS X using my WD Passport drive. My new Built NY case is sitting at the office waiting, and hopefully I should receive my Apple decals in the next few days.

I love starting off a weekend with a brand new toy to play with! I am SO freaking excited. I just hope it arrives earlier in the day as opposed to later. Updates and an unboxing to come…

The Dell Mini 9 Countdown Begins!

Yesterday I pulled the trigger on a new Dell Mini 9. I am so jazzed to get it, but there is only one problem–it won’t be here until somewhere around April 24!! I already sold my Eee PC 701 to a friend, and now I face an empty, cold three weeks without a tiny laptop to keep me warm.

I have taken to poring over the My Dell Mini forums for tips, tricks, and planning my Hackintosh netbook journey in the meantime. Plus, I’m still warm and happy over the specs of my new baby. It is just flat out so much more powerful than my Eee PC. I got the 32GB SSD drive and the 1.3MP webcam, no other real frills to speak of. I have a USB Bluetooth micro-receiver for when I need to use Bluetooth (which is rare) and I have a stick of 2 GB RAM to put in when the Mini finally arrives on my doorstep. I wanted to get the pink Mini, but that was an extra FORTY BUCKS. What a total ripoff, Dell! So, I got the Alpine White instead. If I really feel the need to make it pretty, I’ll throw down $15-20 on a skin and call it a day. Bonus: the white will match my iPhone!

I can’t wait to get my new baby from Dell…it’s going to be a long 23 days in the meantime.
