Staying up past my bedtime occasionally has its benefits…I was about to go to sleep when I received an email from WebIS that my long-awaited holy grail calendar and to-do app, Pocket Informant, had finally been accepted by Apple and released to the App Store.
Thank you, three hour nap! I am so happy that I was awake. I have been waiting for this app since I got my iPhone 3G at the end of August. Needless to say, I promptly purchased it using the App Store on my iPhone and got it all set up with my Google Calendar information (for calendar sync) and my Toodledo account (for to-do sync).
I had already set up my GCal to sync with my Outlook and gotten Toodledo populated with my tasks earlier this week so that I would be prepared for Pocket Informant once it was released. I’m so glad I did, and I’m glad that PI chose the services it did to use with sync out of the box.
Syncing both my tasks and calendars went flawlessly and I am really impressed so far. A full review is forthcoming, but I just had to express my joy. I have missed having a good calendar application at my fingertips! I suppose now I have absolutely no excuse for being disorganized…
I’ve been using Pocket Informant for iPhone for a half a day so far, and I’m really loving the well-thought out ideas. It’s helping me get more out of my Toodledo subscription, and it’s so nice to not have to look at a calendar app as well as a task app. All in one, baby!
I just installed the trial of PI on my BlackBerry Bold. I have yet to be taken in by its awesomeness, but I’m willing to try it for a while as I have great faith in the Diva.
Matt, I think it is all about what you want to be doing with your BB calendar. I used PI on all my PDAs because the built-in calendar app was too simple for my tastes. I like my appointments and tasks to have categories and be color coded so I can see things in a better at-a-glance view, and I like having a digital task system built around GTD without much extra fiddling. I find this kind of thing to be a very personal choice–some people never even do well with a software “planner” and others prefer it. You may just need to work with it a while to see if it fits for you.
Does the BB version sync with cloud services? I like that the cloud sync is native in iPhone even if it is out of necessity. I had sync to Gcal and RTM set up on my Windows Mobile phone through 3rd party stuff and I knew after that I was hooked on OTA/non-computer reliant sync.
