One of the main reasons I wanted to jailbreak my iPhone was to be able to scrobble the tracks I played on my iPod to my last.fm account. I really love last.fm, both for the radio features and just to have a history of what I’ve been listening to. I like to track my habits, “love” certain songs in last.fm to remember them, and discover new music by playing artist stations (in a similar manner to how I use Pandora). …
3 responses to "Scrobble from the iPhone – without a jailbreak!"

I hate having to remember to sync my iPhone just to scrobble things, so when I found out you could auto-scrobble directly to last.fm AS you used your iPod, well…let’s just say it didn’t take me long to break my iPhone out of the slammer.

Now, with iPhone 3.0, there is an application called iScrobbler that allows you to scrobble directly from your phone. You add your music (as much or as little as you want) and listen to it from inside the app. As long as the app is open, your played tracks will be scrobbled. Not as elegant as a small application running in the background…but it’s a start. According to a post in the last.fm forums about the app, you can also start playing tracks on your iPod, and as long as you start the app before the first song ends, it will scrobble that track and all tracks played until the app is closed.

I have downloaded it, but not used it yet. My biggest complaints so far are that I really hate the color scheme–it is an inelegant mix of orange and yellow that quite frankly hurts my eyes–and the track information (artist, album, title) is in a very small font. But, like I said, it’s a start. I look forward to seeing this app grow and possibly seeing something cooked up that will allow background scrobbling in iPhone 3.0.

They look to have a few good deals going on, including a $199 25″ HD monitor and a $269 22″ Samsung HDTV. Of course, this IS CompUSA, so rebates are still going strong. I was excited to see a 16GB flash drive on sale for $24.99, but it is only $24.99 if the good people on the other end of the rebate decide that you’ve filled out the form correctly, have included all required extra paperwork, and sent the proper receipt (the original, NO copies!!).

I will have to meander over to Plano to see what the new CompUSA has to offer me. I do appreciate that they have an entire netbook category and what looks to be quite the selection, but we’ll see what they have in-store. Nothing irks me more than a store that has more products online than they do in the store that is only a mere jaunt up the highway from my house. I am impatient and I hate waiting for my toys to arrive (are you listening, DELL???). I know online shopping is the thing now, but I hope CompUSA isn’t opening up new retail stores just to have their best deals online. I always love another store that I can go to instead of Best Buy.

I was reading an article today about a rising trend–people getting buried with their favorite technology. Apparently people love their geeky gear SO much they don’t want to part with it once they shuffle off this mortal coil. From the article:

“It seems that everyone under 40 who dies takes their cell phone with them,” says Noelle Potvin, family service counselor for Hollywood Forever, a funeral home and cemetery in Hollywood, Calif. “It’s a trend with BlackBerrys, too. We even had one guy who was buried with his Game Boy.”

Don’t get me wrong…I LOVE my gadgets. I rarely leave the house without at least my iPhone in tow, if not also my Nintendo DS, digital camera, and Asus Eee PC. But there’s something just a little creepy to me about making sure that among the funeral directives and wishes you put together for your family or spouse is something along the lines of “Bury me with my iPod.” Apparently one guy even arranged for his beloved Bluetooth headset to be affixed to his ear during the showings before the funeral. But, I don’t know…the article also mentions that it can be comforting for people to know that their deceased loved ones have something with them that they loved, much along the lines of the ancient Egyptians being buried with treasured possessions. I can see how that might be the case.

Now the burning question on my mind is…do all iPods go to heaven?

The game will be filmed using 3ality’s special image capturing technology and streamed via satellite using Cinedigm’s CineLive satellite distribution network to theaters nationwide. It will also be streamed live to a special invite-only CES event sponsored by Sony at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino. Cinedigm’s network is the only one capable of streaming live, 3D transmissions–can you imagine what kind of bandwidth that must take?!

A friend of mine works at Cinedigm and is VERY excited about what her company is doing. I think it’s really awesome, because certainly the only thing better than football in HD is football in 3D. (And the only thing better than this year’s BCS in 3D would be Texas playing instead of Oklahoma.) I don’t know that we’ll be doing more than watching the game in HD, but hopefully Sam Bradford and the Sooners will get a big, heaping 3D spoonful of FAIL fed to them by the Gators and Tim Tebow.
