It’s Dell Mini 9 Eve!

I got the shipment notification on my Dell Mini 9 today, and imagine my surprise when the tracking information showed that it shipped Wednesday night (instead of Friday, as the automated order status line had told me) for arrival TOMORROW! Picture me almost falling out of my office chair from sheer glee and you have my reaction. So it’s Dell Mini Eve and it feels like tomorrow is Christmas Day. Instead of hanging my stocking with care, I pored I …

My favorite tech: Apple TV + Boxee

One of my post-Christmas gift card purchases this year was a 40GB Apple TV. I wanted one for quite a while, and gift cards are the ultimate enabler! When there was no refresh for the Apple TV at MacWorld, (because who doesn’t hate buying something only for the new version to come out immediately afterward?!) I took off for the Apple Store to make my purchase. I have to say, the Apple TV is one of my favorite gadgets in …

iPhone App Review: Pocket Cocktails

So, I can kind of blame the wonderful developers of Pocket Cocktails for the hangover I had the day after my birthday. You see, Pocket Cocktails is an absolutely gorgeous drink recipe app for the iPhone.  The interface is fun and retro, which is a big plus for me…but the real beauty lies in the recipes themselves.  Each one features a painstakingly photographed drink to go along with the recipe, presumably so you know how the drink is supposed to …

Pocket Informant 1.0 hits the App Store!

Staying up past my bedtime occasionally has its benefits…I was about to go to sleep when I received an email from WebIS that my long-awaited holy grail calendar and to-do app, Pocket Informant, had finally been accepted by Apple and released to the App Store. Thank you, three hour nap! I am so happy that I was awake.  I have been waiting for this app since I got my iPhone 3G at the end of August. Needless to say, I …

2009 Macworld Keynote: iYawn

This week brought us the very last Macworld keynote from Apple, and I have to say I was disappointed.  The keynote was truly lackluster, with the introduction of very little that actually interested me (and it seems the rest of the blogosphere agrees).  I think I expected them to at least release ONE exciting update and close the Macworld chapter on an up note, but nothing really got me out of my seat. The only thing I’m really excited about …

iPhone App Review: Trism

The first game I bought for my iPhone was Demiforce’s tour de force puzzle game, Trism.  It looked like an amazing combo of Hexic (a favorite on the XBox) and Tetris, and I’m a puzzle game addict.  After only a few games, I was hooked.  Trism is absolutely awesome.  I just got my highest score tonight of almost 7 million points–I was pretty disappointed to learn that if I want to beat the highest score, I’m looking at besting someone …

Say it ain’t so! 2009 is Apple’s last year at Macworld

According to a press release on the Apple PR site, the keynote address on January 6, 2009 will be Steve’s swan song at the Macworld Expo.  According to the release, Apple is scaling back trade shows because of the increasing popularity of reaching customer via other mediums, such as the retail Apple Stores and Apple.com. What does this mean for Macworld as we know it?  Will they be passing out Apple emblazoned tissues while the fanboys and girls bid His …

The iPhone 3G is unlocked!

We all knew it was just a matter of time…the hackmasters behind the iPhone Dev Team have been hard at work since the day the iPhone 3G was released to unshackle it from the carrier constraints of AT&T. Now it looks like a successful hack is finally complete, with a promise of a free unlocking program available to the masses by December 31. Apparently the hack will only work on jailbroken phones with firmware 2.11 and below. Just a word …

All I want for Christmas (or my birthday) is Pocket Informant…

One of the apps I’ve been waiting for (not so patiently) is Pocket Informant for iPhone.  I’m a long-time PI fan from my days of using it on Windows Mobile, and I absolutely cannot wait to have it on my iPhone.  The problem is, I’m incredibly impatient. I’m not a huge fan of the built-in iPhone calendar–it is functional, and I have it syncing with my Google Calendar via NuevaSync, but otherwise it’s nothing to write home about.  I’m used …
